Michael Lamb's Strictly Smokin' Big Band is not a big band like you might expect.
This band prides itself on the versatility of its performance: originally rooted in swing, but beyond comfortable performing ultra contemporary material.
It is the only ensemble of it's kind in the North of England and was recently hailed as having potential to be the best big band in the UK.
The band travels the UK playing established clubs, festivals and music venues to great acclaim.
As well as drawing huge, often sell out crowds, in their own right - Stricty Smokin' have performed with jazz A listers including Joe Stilgoe, Polly Gibbons, Bruce Adams, Alan Barnes, Paul Booth, Hailey Tuck, Anthony Strong and Mark Nightingale (Feb '19)
The band’s niche is in the performance of modern compositions by a huge range of composers and musicians from across the world. The scope of style and technique is huge and Strictly Smokin’ work tirelessly to achieve the highest possible standards and the most engaging performances.
“many would claim [Strictly Smokin’] to be the UKs number one big band”
"The SSBB is increasingly looking beyond the tried and tested, trying and testing charts by the likes of Adam Bartczak and Tom Garling. Swing? – the SSBB certainly does, but newer material is key to maintaining the interest of the audience…"
“Hearing a power house unit like this, really is the most mind-blowing experience”
“This is the stuff jazz is made of” Be Bop Spoken Here (UK)
“The Strictly Smokin’ Big Band nailed it” Anthony Strong (#1 in iTunes US Jazz Charts)
“I heartily recommend hearing these guys, or if you’re lucky enough to get asked... to play with them” Bruce Adams (UK)
